There are various forms, shapes, and colors of mold. Mold is a growth of tiny fungi which forms in your home due to decay, dampness or moisture. How does mold reproduce? Fusarium - can cause keratitis, endophthalmitis, onychomycosis, mycetoma, and disseminated infection in immunocompromised patients (such as the chromes patients, the elderly, etc).
Penicillium - there are 200+ species of this particular toxic response. Penicillium often produces microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOC's) that give the distinctive heavy, musty odor.
Paecilomyces - is a contaminant/opportunistic pathogen, found world wide in soil and decaying vegetation. With so many toxic responses to mold it's important to understand who are at high risk when it comes to household mold. The top six high risk persons are: (a) children, (b) immune compromised individuals, (c) chemo-therapy patients, (d) people with liver disease, (e) pregnant women, and (f) anyone with respiratory problems.
